CANDID
Looking through my lens
I asked if I could come
into his world.
With one eye closed
I controlled my shutter release
and captured
his hesitant response
Camera-shy
but willing to try,
he allowed his posture to relax
and let my abstract angles
leave him
Wide Open
I caught his eye
from all sides
and loved the way
his jaw clenched
when he concentrated
on being serious
When he finally stopped
posing
his eyes deepened
and I was tempted
to place my camera
on the table
But instead
I turned off my
flash
and captured him
in his natural light
and natural beauty
No longer concerned with
his shirt being wrinkled
the hole in his jeans
or the stubble on his face,
he finally began
to catch a glimpse of
what I saw
through my lens
and he welcomed me
Inside
the speed of my shutter
seemed too slow
to take all of him in
Mesmerized by his
openness,
I was
unaware of my own
reaction
and
practically oblivious
to the click and whirl
signifying the end
of my
roll
Reluctant
to put my camera down
I slowly met his eyes
and they said
that he had
seen as much of
me
as I had of
him
Caught off-guard
I blinked
and shyly smiled
knowing our roles had
reversed
and the brief moment
had been
perfectly
framed.
